History of this car

This is an absolute beautiful example of a 1952 Pre A coupe.

This is a multiple winning concours car that also has been featured in Excellence and also other Porsche book publications.

History traces back to its original owner and the records show that this car was originally bought in Germany on January 7, 1953 while the first owner was in Germany on a post military stay. The car was bought back to Milwaukee, WI. The original owner has confirmed that when he bought it to United States, he painted the car a dark blue and raced this car in regional SCCA events for about 2 years. He traded the car during 1955 as the front end was worn out from racing. Original owner’s name and telephone number is available.

There is no history on the car again until the mid 1970’s when the car found its way to a San Diego salvage yard. The car sat in this facility until the early 1990’s when it was purchased by Mr John Wilberg.

Mr Wilberg began restoration of the car and it was completed in 1998. At this time the car was displayed at the San Diego Auto Museum during Porsche’s 50th Anniversary celebration.

This car has matching number panels all round. It is evident by seeing the 33 stamped on the front hood and also the rear hood. The door panels haven’t been pulled off, but the restoration shop has confirmed that the doors are matching doors to the chassis of the car.

This car has never been in an accident.

The interesting thing about this car is the amount of time it spent being assembled at the factory. The VIN number supports a March 1952 production date, but the records from the factory show that Reutter delivered the car to the factory on October 30, 1952 suggesting that this was set aside for some reason. Mr Owe Biegner, Brett Johnson and Klaus Boizo confirmed the production history and original ownership of the car either individually or I combination, through an examination of factory ledger books and other records. The original owner verified the interior color scheme as original to the car.

The COA shows a different engine number to what is with the car. Through several discussions with Mr Owe Biegner, Brett Johnson and Klaus Boizo, it can be reasonably assumed that the factory did install this engine (number P-30918) as a replacement. This is supported by the history in documents that come with this car. The original owner has also confirmed that when he took delivery of this car in Germany from the factory, it already had engine number P-30918 installed.

All Pre A cars made have a certain uniqueness about them which is owed to the fact that Porsche was continually making changes and continuous improvements. The stacked taillights on this car are consistent with an early 1952 model while the fully synchronized transmission is not found until the 1953 model cars which began during October 1952.

The directional turbo rings are fairly rare and not often seen. There intended use was to vent hot air from the brakes, but most people now like them for their “cosmetic” appeal. The stork gauge n this car is unusual as it has a low pivoting needle and a dual scale (C and F).

Overall, this is a very well sorted out Pre A coupe that is capable of being driven anywhere. It is in stunning condition and has some great history. It is a real eye catcher of a car. Drive and/or show this car and it will bring smiles from ear to ear.

This car is available for inspection in Atlanta, GA. I will help assist any interested parties in shipping within the United States or overseas.
